Places
The Costa Blanca is often being associated with the modern and massive city of Benidorm, partly due to TV series dedicated to this big place. However, at the Costa Blanca also many villages can be found where time seems to have stood still.
- Benitachell: a church in the heart of this village is worth visiting and in addition, many narrow streets are characteristic for the authentic Spain.
- Moraira: traditional fishing village that has retained its authenticity; no high buildings here but pleasant shopping streets, cafés, terraces and a weekly market on Friday.
- Javea: the new area is pretty massive, but the old town is still authentic, a bit hidden from the masses; saunter through the old streets.
- Benissa: located inland; away from the crowds at sea the picturesque old town is set among vineyards and orchards of almond and olive trees.
- Guadalest: known for "El Castell de Guadalest" and its reservoir, an ideal destination for a day trip inland.
- Valencia: is the third largest city in Spain and home to many historical but also many modern buildings; this city was founded in the year 138 BC by the Romans and considered the birthplace of paella, one of the most famous dishes of Spanish cuisine; Valencia is also known as the Orange City and when you might be driving that way it can be seen why.
